Station Road, North Wingfield In Chesterfield
Following an initial design consultation our clients believed that we understood their vision and ideas and would be able to deliver them more clearly than the other Architects and Architectural Design practices to transform their already attractive, well finished house into their “dream home”.
As a settled family, they already had enough bedrooms in the property and couldn’t envisage moving away from the area they called home. However, the one major thing really missing was a large open plan living space for them to enjoy as a family regardless of what activities they were doing, be it cooking, eating or relaxing inside or out in the garden.
We quickly identified that the lounge they had could ideally be turned into a snug for cosy nights in whilst the existing dining room should be retained but they wanted a large family room with kitchen that backed onto a large rear garden. They also had a a number of smaller rooms to the side of the house which were largely dis-used and we also identified these as potentially being ideal for converting into a utility room and other functional spaces.
One last criteria was that they wanted the feel of the space to be modern and provide a contemporary living space that suited their lifestyle and also matched in with the existing house.
In order to provide our clients with their forever home we have looked to create a single storey extension to the back of their house. This will provide them with a large and spacious family living room complete with Kitchen, Dining and Lounge Areas that all over look the rear garden through a mixture of Bi folding doors and decorative glazed screens.
To the side of this we have created a small single storey link extension to form a de-boot lobby (so that they don’t drag muck and dirty in from outside when they have been playing with their daughter in the garden). This also forms access into the converted rooms to the side of the house which now provide a large family laundry / utility as well as a shower room.
The create a modern contemporary feel we propose to use a mixture of contemporary colours and materials. Mainly White Render (to match the existing house) with Dark Grey aluminium doors and windows, however to break up the bulk of White Render we have looked to add some visual diversity with the subtle use of Timber cladding to the feature gable. We hope that this will provide some visual relief from the expanses of White render and help to soften the appearance and make it more homely and welcoming.
The overall form of the extension again is to be very contemporary but with a twist. The main bulk of the extension is to be a contemporary flat roof, however to create a feeling of spaciousness inside we have looked to add the pitched roof over the dining / living areas which will see a large vaulted ceiling with feature roof lights over, making the space feel larger and look stunning visually. This is then further enhanced with the glazed feature screen being taken up to the apex of the roof to maximise the light into the space.
As you can guess from the Architectural 3-Dimension visuals, this project has not yet been completed, however we are excited to see construction on this extension start in the not too distant future. Feel free to check out blogs and facebook news feeds where we will hopefully be bringing news and Architectural Site Photos of the projects progress.
