New Apartments in Place of Derelict Bakery on Chapel Road in Grassmoor, Chesterfield
Existing Plot – An abandoned and derelict bakery enclosed on all sides by the main highway and adjacent buildings / gardens, situated on a predominantly terraced street.
Proposal – Demolition of the existing building and construction of a new “detached” two storey building that appears to be an extension of the streets terraced housing, providing two independent one bedroom apartments.
Substantial negotiations were required with the local highways authority to agree a new development without the provision of off street parking and further negotiations with the planners were carried out to agree a scheme that proved sympathetic to the area and provided much needed extra housing.
The bricks from the existing bakery were reclaimed and cleaned up following demolition for reuse within the build and the apartments named the Old Bakery to create a legacy and link with the sites past.
The completed apartments comprise the following accommodation:
- Communal access and cycle store
- Living dining kitchen
- Storage space
