Edmund Street Activity Centre in Chesterfield

Day Care Centre – Edmund Street Activity Centre in Chesterfield

Existing Plot – A disused and dilapidated former Children’s Health Centre situated on an overgrown and heavily littered corner plot within the middle of a residential area.

Proposal – Renovation and alteration of the existing structure to create a dual purpose, specialist day care centre for both people suffering from dementia and also young disabled adults.

Following extensive design consultations with the client, Moraira Care Ltd, JCAD was able to understand the unique requirements of individually designated rooms, together with how circulation spaces needed to flow in order to best serve both the business and more importantly, its users.

With such a diverse occupancy building was split into two sides, serving elderly Dementia patients on the one side and Young Disabled Adults on the other. Such extremely different uses required two completely different layouts and rooms to be created. Through detailed and thoughtful Architectural design of each space, JCAD were able to transform the internal arrangements of the building, opening up spaces where required and subdividing the spaces as necessary whilst liaising with Structural Engineers to complete a Robust and cost effective solution.

The Space / facilities created were as follows:
• Two open communal lounges (one for each side)
• Memory room (filled with antique items such as garments, chairs and games from yester year)
• Hair Salon
• Crafts Room
• Life skills learning kitchen
• Sensory Room
• Disabled Bath and Shower Facilities
• Multi-function community room
• Counselling Room
• New Entrance Lobby’s for both aspects of the business
